A trade association for real estate professionals interested in Manhattan real estate, including office and residential property owners and builders, brokers and managers, banks, and architects, REBNY represents its members' concerns relating to public policies affecting their businesses to the city, state, and federal governments.

Scope and Content Note

The records include competitive office building surveys, office building vacancy and sub-lease surveys, tables of new constructions and additions to office spaces, analysis of operating costs for office buildings, report on gross rents received, and related notes and correspondence from 1925 to 1997. The bulk of the surveys and reports were compiled between 1931 and 1958, and they include information from 1870. The various surveys were sent to building managers in different districts in Manhattan to furnish information to assist members to gauge the condition of the market at various times of the year. The individual figures were not given out, and the results in gross tabulations were provided only to those members who participated in furnishing the information. The first survey made in the downtown district was completed on February 16, 1925.
