The Skyscraper Museum is devoted to the study of high-rise building, past, present, and future. The Museum explores tall buildings as objects of design, products of technology, sites of construction, investments in real estate, and places of work and residence. The two towers that poke above the surrounding mid-rise context of Midtown South are 425 Fifth Avenue (at left), completed in 2003, and 400 Fifth Avenue, a mixed-use hotel and condominium. Both use decorative window patterns and masonry cladding that nod to Art Deco skyscrapers of the 1920s.
